Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), attended the first T20 match of the Bangladesh-Pakistan series at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium. During his visit, he spoke with a private TV channel.
At one point in the interview, a journalist brought up the topic of Shakib Al Hasan, asking Mirza Fakhrul if Shakib would be able to play for the national team again if the BNP came to power. In response, the BNP Secretary General gave a positive indication.
Mirza Fakhrul stated, "That will depend on Shakib's form and whether he is still in cricket at that time. I have never wanted to bring politics into sports and I don't believe in it either. So, whoever is deserving will certainly play."
Later, Mirza Fakhrul was asked about his favorite cricketer among those he sees on TV. He replied, "My favorite player is Mushfiqur Rahim."
Interestingly, former Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim was also present at the stadium to watch the match, accompanied by his son, Maayan.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh secured a T20 victory against Pakistan after a long nine-year wait. The Tigers defeated Pakistan by seven wickets at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday (July 20). Litton Das's team chased down the visitors' target of 111 runs with 27 balls to spare.
