Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment. He was seen walking out of the hospital around 9:00 PM on Saturday (July 19).
Upon his discharge, the Jamaat Amir expressed gratitude to those who showed concern for his illness. He stated, "By Allah's will, I could not fully express my thoughts for the nation. I hope the country is not harmed in any way because of me."
He further added, "Fascism has departed from the country. Corruption must be eradicated through struggle. This is necessary for all parties. If the country is not free from corruption, nothing will be properly possible."
Earlier, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Member Dr. Moin Khan, and the Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor of the interim government, Shafiqul Alam, visited the Jamaat Amir at the hospital.
Following the visit, Jamaat's Nayeb-e-Amir Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher informed journalists that the Jamaat Amir was well. He stated that Dr. Shafiqur Rahman had fallen ill due to the heat but was now in good condition with no significant issues, and doctors were supervising him.
He also mentioned that despite the large gathering, no major untoward incidents occurred. He added that there were efforts to postpone the program, but the Amir did not wish for it.
It is noteworthy that the Jamaat Amir suddenly fell ill and collapsed on stage while delivering a speech at a rally in Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital. After falling ill twice, he eventually delivered his speech while sitting on the stage. Following the rally, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman was taken to Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhanmondi.
