Previously, on April 2 of this year, U.S. President Donald Trump imposed high retaliatory tariffs on various countries, citing a trade deficit. At that time, a 35% tariff was placed on Bangladesh. This was in response to Bangladesh's 74% tariff rate on U.S. goods, and was originally scheduled to take effect on August 1.

The tariffs on several countries were later suspended for three months on April 9, allowing Washington to provide an opportunity for discussions on the matter. The third round of talks regarding the U.S. 35% retaliatory tariff began on July 29.

Bangladesh's delegation was led by Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin. The joint announcement was made by both sides after the three-day discussion with the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR).
