Since U.S. President Donald Trump took office for his second term, citizens from various countries, including Bangladesh, who have been caught as undocumented immigrants, are being sent back to their home countries.
As a result, a number of people are returning to Dhaka each month.
As part of this process, the United States deported 61 Bangladeshis on Friday, August 1, for being in the country illegally.
This information was confirmed in a message from the Consular and Welfare Wing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Sources at the Foreign Ministry stated that the 61 Bangladeshis are being sent back on a U.S. military aircraft and are expected to land at Shahjalal International Airport at 6:45 AM on Saturday, August 2.
However, a source from the Special Branch (SB) of the police reported that at least 30 Bangladeshis are being sent back on a chartered flight from the U.S. and are expected to arrive at Shahjalal International Airport early Saturday morning.
While the initial number for this deportation was said to be 60, the final number is 30.
Earlier, since taking office in January, the Trump administration began deporting undocumented immigrants to their home countries.
Citizens from many countries, including India and Brazil, were sent back in handcuffs.
However, the U.S. authorities have so far treated Bangladeshi citizens who have been deported humanely.
No Bangladeshi citizens have been handcuffed.
During various discussions before the deportations, Bangladesh emphasized the importance of humane treatment, and the U.S. has responded to that request.
The individuals arriving in this latest group will also be treated humanely.
The U.S. has previously sent back 118 other Bangladeshi citizens.
