The United States has sent back 39 Bangladeshis who were in the country illegally. They arrived at Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport on a U.S. military plane on Saturday morning, August 2.
Previously, a message from the Consular and Welfare Wing of the Foreign Ministry stated that 61 Bangladeshis were being returned on a U.S. military aircraft.
However, a source from the police's Special Branch (SB) had reported that at least 30 Bangladeshis were being deported on a chartered flight. The initial number was said to be 60, but it was later revised to 30.
Since taking office in January, the Trump administration has been deporting undocumented immigrants to their home countries. Citizens from many countries, including India and Brazil, have been sent back in handcuffs. However, U.S. authorities have so far treated deported Bangladeshi citizens humanely.
No Bangladeshi citizens have been handcuffed. During various discussions prior to the deportations, Bangladesh emphasized the importance of humane treatment, and the U.S. has complied with this request.
Those arriving in this latest group will also be treated humanely. The U.S. has previously deported 118 other Bangladeshi citizens at various times.
Note: Since U.S. President Donald Trump began his second term, citizens from various countries, including Bangladesh, who have been caught as undocumented immigrants, are being sent back to their home countries.
As a result, a number of people are returning to Dhaka each month. As part of that process, the U.S. deported a number of Bangladeshis on Friday, August 1.
