Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus stated today that "signs of various conspiracies by defeated forces are becoming visible" less than a year after the July revolution.
He emphasized the need for greater visibility in the unity among political parties against fascism, despite their differences and rivalries.
Otherwise, he warned, these forces would perceive it as an opportunity.
The Chief Adviser made these remarks this Wednesday afternoon during a meeting with leaders from 13 political parties and alliances at the state guest house, Jamuna. He had convened the meeting to discuss the country's recent situation.
Addressing the political leaders, Dr. Yunus said, "As we approached the first anniversary of the July uprising, our initiative was to bring all political parties together to commemorate the past, and we had adopted programs for that. This would have made the unity against fascism visible among ourselves. But less than a year has passed, and we are already seeing signs of various conspiracies by the defeated forces."
In response to the Chief Adviser's comments, all parties expressed their support for maintaining political and public unity against fascism.
The political parties, in their statements, highlighted the issue of law and order control and urged the Chief Adviser to take a tougher stance on the matter.
The leaders expressed their full support for reforms, judicial processes, and the election process. They also requested more regular all-party meetings with political parties to prepare for the upcoming elections and to counter fascism.
Attendees at the meeting included Syed Hasibuddin Hossain of Rashtra Sangskar Andolan, Junaid Saki of Ganosonghati Andolan, Mujibur Rahman Monju of AB Party, Shahidullah Kaiser of Nagorik Oikya, Nurul Haque Nur of Gono Odhikar Parishad, Redwan Ahmed of LDP, Dr. Ahmad Abdul Kader of Khelafat Majlish, Saiful Haque of Revolutionary Workers Party, Tania Rob of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD, Shahadat Hossain Selim of the 12-Party Alliance, Bozlur Rashid Firoz of BASOD, Ruhin Hossain Prince of CPB, and Dr. Mizanur Rahman of Gono Forum.
Earlier on Tuesday, July 22, the Chief Adviser also held meetings with four other political parties: BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, NCP, and Islami Andolan.
