The Bay of Bengal is turbulent due to the influence of the new moon and a low-pressure system. As a result, there is a fear of 1-3 feet high tidal surges in 15 districts and island areas across the country.

This information was released in a special bulletin signed by meteorologist Md. Shahinul Islam on Saturday (July 26).

The bulletin states that due to the new moon and low pressure, the coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalakathi, Pirojpur, Barisal, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Chandpur, Laxmipur, Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, and their offshore islands and chars may be inundated by wind-driven tidal surges 1-3 feet higher than normal.

It further mentioned that the low-pressure system, which was located over West Bengal and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal and the coastal areas of Bangladesh, moved west-northwestwards and was situated over West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand by late last night.

It is likely to move further west-northwest. Due to its influence, there is a prevailing pressure gradient over the North Bay of Bengal. Squally weather is anticipated over the North Bay of Bengal, the coastal areas of Bangladesh, and the seaports.

In this situation, the Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra seaports have been advised to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No. 3.
