Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has made his new relationship official. While speculations were already swirling during the Champions Trophy, where he was seen in the stands with a mystery woman, the star has now confirmed his romance with Irish citizen Sophie Shine.
On Thursday (May 1), Dhawan posted a picture with Sophie on Instagram, captioned simply: "My love," followed by a heart emoji. The post was met with warm wishes and congratulations from fans. Sophie shared the same photo on her profile, making the announcement mutual.
Sophie, an Irish national, works as a consultant for an American firm with offices in Dubai, where she currently resides. According to reports, the couple met in Dubai.
The pair had earlier been spotted together at a Champions Trophy match in Dubai. When asked about his rumoured girlfriend at the time, Dhawan smiled and said, "I won't name anyone—but the most beautiful girl in the stands is my girlfriend." Sophie was present at the match.
Dhawan was previously married to Ayesha Mukherjee, who is ten years his senior. The two tied the knot in 2012 but divorced in 2023 due to personal differences. They share a son, though Dhawan did not receive custody following the court ruling. Custody was granted to Ayesha.
Dhawan retired from professional cricket in 2024. Over the course of his international career, he played 269 matches across all formats and amassed 10,867 runs as an opening batsman.
