Ten people were burned in a balloon explosion at an event venue on Manik Mia Avenue in the capital, which was organized to commemorate 'July Mass Uprising Day.'
The injured were rescued and taken to the emergency department of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5.
The victims have been identified as Mazharul Islam (27), Billal (45), Fahad (20), Md. Monsur Islam (38), Sharif (32), Palash (21), Md. Habibullah (23), Md. Yasin (25), Mishu (23), and Mihat (17).
Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, the resident surgeon at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed the incident, stating, "So far, ten people have been brought to us from a gas balloon explosion on Manik Mia Avenue. They are currently receiving treatment in the emergency department."
According to reports, students and the public were flying a symbolic "helicopter" made of gas balloons at Manik Mia Avenue to celebrate the "July 36th Celebration." The gas balloons suddenly caught fire in an explosion, and the flames spread to nearby electrical wires. A total of ten people were injured. The fire was later extinguished with a drone.
Earlier in the day, a 'July Reawakening Cultural Program' began at 12 p.m. to honor the July martyrs. The event was scheduled to feature performances by Parsha, Elita Karim, F Minor, and Artcell, among others.
