Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (BAJUS) has reset gold prices in the local market, with the new rates effective from today, Wednesday (June 25).
According to the newly set prices, the finest quality, 22-carat gold, is now selling at 172,860 Bangladeshi Taka (BDT) per Bhori (11.664 grams). This represents a decrease of BDT 1,668 per Bhori.
This price reduction comes in response to a drop in the price of acid gold (refined gold) in the local market.
The decision to lower prices was made during a meeting of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring Committee on Tuesday (June 24). This information was later announced in a circular signed by the committee's chairman, Masudur Rahman.
Previously, gold prices in Bangladesh had increased four times on June 14, June 6, May 22, and May 18. The last increase on June 14 saw the price of 22-carat gold rise by BDT 2,182 per Bhori, setting the new price at BDT 174,528. For 21-carat gold, the price increased by BDT 2,100 to BDT 166,597 per Bhori.
Additionally, 18-carat gold saw an increase of BDT 1,808 per Bhori, reaching a new price of BDT 142,802. Traditional (Sanatani) gold increased by BDT 1,528 per Bhori, setting its price at BDT 118,168. Gold was sold at these prices in the local market until yesterday (Tuesday).
