Bangladesh has placed an order for 25 aircraft from the American company Boeing, according to Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman.
Speaking to reporters in his office at the Ministry of Commerce in the Secretariat on Sunday, Rahman stated, "Boeing's business is conducted by the company itself, not the US government. We have ordered 25 aircraft from Boeing. For comparison, India has ordered 100, Vietnam 100, and Indonesia 100."
He added that Boeing would supply the aircraft based on their capacity, implying a significant lead time for delivery.
This initiative to increase imports from the United States comes as Bangladesh continues discussions with US trade representatives regarding tariff reductions.
US President Donald Trump has already imposed a 35% tariff on Bangladeshi products, which is higher than the tariffs on goods from Vietnam (20%) and Indonesia (19%).
The total cost of these aircraft imports has not yet been disclosed.
