A Bangladeshi youth, Md. Millat Hossain (21), has been killed and another, Md. Afsar (31), injured in firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Parshuram, Feni.
The incident occurred around 12:00 AM on Thursday (July 24) night in the Baspadua border area of the upazila. The deceased, Millat, was the son of Yusuf Miah of Baspadua area in the municipality. The injured, Afsar, is the son of the late Air Ahmed from the same area.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, Commanding Officer of BGB Feni Battalion (4 BGB), confirmed the information to a private media outlet in the country.
According to local sources, Millat and Afsar crossed pillar 2164/3S under Guthuma BOP and went near the barbed wire fence inside Indian territory on Thursday night. BSF members then opened fire on them.
Locals rescued them in critical condition and first took them to Parshuram Upazila Health Complex, and later to Feni General Hospital. Millat died there while undergoing treatment.
Regarding the incident, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, Commanding Officer of BGB Feni Battalion (4 BGB), stated that the Baspadua border is prone to smuggling. Upon receiving news of a Bangladeshi citizen being shot at the border by BSF firing, BGB members immediately visited the scene. A written protest will be lodged by the BGB regarding this matter.
