Eight people have died following a collision between a truck and a microbus on the Bonpara-Hatikumrul Highway in Natore. Among the deceased are five women.
The accident occurred today, Wednesday, July 23, at approximately 10:30 AM, in the Sreerampur area near the Airhmari Bridge in the Upazila.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ismail Hossain of Bonpara Highway Police Station confirmed the incident.
The victims have been identified as members of the same family: Iti Khatun (40), Jahidul Islam (60), Anjuman (75), Selim (60), Anna Khatun (60), Anu Begum (55), Shima Khatun (35), and microbus driver Sahabuddin (35). They were all residents of Dharmadaha village in Adabari Union, Daulatpur Upazila, Kushtia District.
Eyewitnesses reported that a truck traveling from Dhaka towards Rajshahi collided with a microbus heading from Kushtia to Dhaka as it reached the Tormuj Telpump area on the Bonpara-Hatikumrul Highway. The microbus was severely mangled in the crash, and five people, including the driver, died instantly at the scene.
Dr. Dolly Rani of Baraigram Upazila Health Complex stated that three injured individuals were brought to the hospital. One was pronounced dead upon arrival, and the remaining two were transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, where both later succumbed to their injuries.
OC Ismail Hossain of Bonpara Highway Police Station added that efforts are underway to identify all the deceased. He confirmed that five died at the scene, one at the local hospital, and two more at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
He also mentioned that the traffic congestion caused by the accident has been cleared, and police are working to initiate legal action regarding the incident.
