Members of the banned student organization Chhatra League have reportedly set fire to and vandalized a police vehicle in Gopalganj Sadar.
The incident, which occurred in the Ulpur area of Sadar Upazila today, Wednesday, July 16, is linked to the month-long "July March" program of the National Citizens' Party (NCP).
Mir Md. Sajedur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station, confirmed the incident.
According to the OC, the NCP's "July March" program was scheduled to include a procession at the Municipal Park in Gopalganj city today, with central leaders expected to attend.
OC Sajedur Rahman stated that supporters of Ataur Rahman Piyal, general secretary of the banned Chhatra League organization, torched and vandalized a police vehicle in the Ulpur area of Sadar Upazila to thwart the NCP's procession.
There are no immediate reports of casualties. Police have arrived at the scene.
