Rail communication between Sylhet and the rest of the country has been suspended due to the derailment of an oil-carrying train’s wagon at Paraychok in South Surma, Sylhet.
The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday (February 15) when the wagon of the oil-carrying train from Chittagong went off the tracks. Since then, no trains have departed from Sylhet Railway Station, nor have any trains arrived in Sylhet from other destinations.
Nurul Islam, the manager of Sylhet Railway Station, confirmed the incident to the media.
He stated that due to the derailment, the Upaban Express, scheduled to depart from Sylhet for Dhaka, could not commence its journey, and the Kalni Express, which was on its way from Dhaka to Sylhet, could not reach Sylhet Station. Rescue operations are underway with the help of a relief train. It is hoped that the rail line will be restored by 9 a.m.
