President Mohammed Shahabuddin has stated that the July Mass Uprising was an "explosion of anger" from the younger generation and the general public against long-standing deprivation, misrule, corruption, plunder, enforced disappearances, murder, abduction, and the snatching of voting rights.
The main objective of this uprising was to abolish the discriminatory, fascist system and re-establish democracy, empower the people, and ensure freedom of expression.
The President made these remarks in a message released on Monday, August 4, on the occasion of July Mass Uprising Day.
In his message, the President also said that the students, laborers, and public had created a collective resistance against the discriminatory state system and fascist misrule during the July Mass Uprising. "On the anniversary of this historic achievement, I extend my heartfelt greetings and congratulations to the freedom-seeking students and people of the country," he said.
Paying tribute to the injured and the martyrs, he said, "I remember with deep respect all the martyrs of the July Mass Uprising who made the ultimate sacrifice to free the country from autocracy. I pray for the salvation of their souls. I also respectfully remember the sacrifice and contributions of all the brave July fighters who were injured, disabled, or lost their eyesight in this mass uprising. It is the sacred duty of the state to ensure justice for the families of the martyrs and the injured of the July Mass Uprising, and the state is committed to fulfilling this duty."
The President called for the complete implementation of the July spirit by eradicating fascism to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh.
He further wrote in his message that in the post-July Mass Uprising era, the state is moving forward with a comprehensive reform process.
This reform will reflect the hopes and aspirations of the uprising, and a new, just, and equitable Bangladesh will be built through a genuine democratic transition.
