The High Court has granted bail to Shafiur Rahman Farabi, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the murder case of blogger Avijit Roy.
On Wednesday, July 30, a High Court bench comprising Justice Zafar Ahmed and Justice K.M. Rasheduzzaman Raja issued the bail order.
Senior lawyer S.M. Shahjahan, assisted by lawyer Muhammad Hujjatul Islam Khan, argued for the bail application in court.
Regarding the bail order, lawyer Muhammad Hujjatul Islam Khan stated that the High Court had accepted Shafiur Rahman Farabi's appeal for hearing against the trial court's verdict in 2021.
The court has now granted him interim bail. In this case, there were confessional statements from four accused, but none of them mentioned Farabi's name in their statements.
He further added that Farabi's name did not appear in the testimony of any witness other than the investigating officer. Farabi himself did not give any confessional statement.
Additionally, he has been imprisoned in connection with this case since March 3, 2015. The court granted bail based on these arguments.
