Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser to the interim government, has called for resistance against all attempts to disrupt the upcoming general election.
He made this appeal on Saturday (July 26) during an exchange of views with top leaders of 14 political parties at the state guest house, Jamuna.
The Chief Adviser stated that "defeated forces" are trying to create chaos and sabotage the election process. He urged all anti-fascist forces to unite and thwart these ill attempts.
He warned that if all forces for change fail to conduct a fair election, this opportunity will be lost.
Dr. Yunus remarked that the defeated forces are creating various disturbances whenever they get an opportunity, hindering the country's normal progress. He noted that conspiracies emerge whenever preparations for the election advance.
However, he emphasized that no conspiracy can impede democratic progress, as the unity of all democratic forces against fascism is clear.
At the meeting, the Chief Adviser expressed his expectation of cooperation from all political parties to ensure a fair election. The political leaders present assured him of their full support.
Those in attendance at the meeting included Aminul Haque Tipu Biswas of Jatiya Ganatantrik Front, Mostafa Jamal Haider of the 12-Party Alliance, Maulana Abdul Mazed Athari of Nezam-e-Islam Party, Maulana Yusuf Ashraf of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlish, Fariduzzaman Farhad of National People's Party, Dr. Mushtaq Hossain of Bangladesh JSD, Bobby Hajjaj of Nationalist Democratic Movement, Mufti Sakawat Hossain Razi of Islami Oikya Jote, Rafiqul Islam Bablu of Bhasani Janashakti Party, Dr. Mostafizur Rahman Iran of Bangladesh Labor Party, Masud Rana of Bangladesh Socialist Party (Marxist), and Manzurul Islam Afendi of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam.
