Former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of police. He was taken into custody from his Dhanmondi residence around 8:00 AM on Thursday (July 24).

Joint Commissioner of DB, Mohammad Nasirul Islam, confirmed the arrest.

He stated that former Chief Justice Khairul Haque was arrested from his Dhanmondi residence in Dhaka at 8:00 AM. He will be taken to the DB office, and further action will be taken against him.

Khairul Haque was sworn in as the 19th Chief Justice of Bangladesh on September 30, 2010. He retired on May 17, 2011, upon reaching the age of 67.

Towards the end of the Awami League government's tenure, Khairul Haque served as the Chairman of the Law Commission. He resigned from the Law Commission on August 13, following the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government on August 5 last year, amidst a student-people's uprising.
