Foreign Adviser Meets Chinese and Canadian FMs, Discusses Renewed Collaboration

Bangladesh's Foreign Adviser, Md. Touhid Hossain, today concluded productive meetings with the Foreign Ministers of China and Canada on the sidelines of the 32nd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in Kuala Lumpur.

Discussions centered on strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in trade, investment, and humanitarian assistance, with both nations expressing a desire for renewed collaboration with Bangladesh.

Talks with China Focus on Economic Support and Rohingya Crisis
During his meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, both officials expressed confidence in the future of their bilateral relationship.

Minister Wang Yi affirmed China’s full support for the reform initiatives undertaken by the current Bangladesh government, led by Professor Muhammad Yunus.

He also pledged China's cooperation in several key areas, including medical tourism and water management.

Recalling China’s recent investment conference in Bangladesh, Minister Wang Yi reiterated China's interest in working with Bangladesh in sectors such as textiles, energy, and light engineering.

Foreign Adviser Hossain expressed deep appreciation for China's political and development support to the current government.

He emphasized Bangladesh's urgent call for an immediate solution to the Rohingya crisis and sought China's continued support in this regard.

Hossain also urged China to support Bangladesh on regional and multilateral platforms, including the United Nations.

Canada Pledges Support for Trade Diversification and Rohingya Aid
Later in the afternoon, Foreign Adviser Hossain met with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand.

Their discussion focused on expanding bilateral relations, particularly through trade diversification and resilience building.

Minister Anand also conveyed Canada's commitment to supporting efforts to address the protracted Rohingya crisis.

Foreign Adviser Hossain is leading the Bangladesh delegation to the 32nd ARF Ministerial Meeting, which is scheduled for tomorrow.

He was accompanied by Ambassador Shameem Ahsan, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Malaysia, Mr. Md. Forhadul Islam, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other senior Bangladeshi officials.
