Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, the Finance Advisor, announced that e-passport services have been launched in 59 Bangladeshi missions across the world. He made this statement on Monday (June 2) during his proposed budget speech for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
The Finance Advisor further stated that initiatives have been taken to introduce e-passports, e-visas, and e-travel permits in all Bangladeshi missions. Additionally, state-of-the-art e-gates equipped with advanced technology have been installed at various checkpoints to implement an automated immigration system.
He also mentioned that the requirement for police reports in passport issuance has been relaxed to improve the quality of security services.
Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed added that steps have been taken to formulate the Bangladesh Prison and Correctional Services Act 2025, aiming to transform prisons into correctional facilities.
Salehuddin Ahmed also informed that as part of efforts to combat various transnational organized crimes, including terrorist financing, in coordination with international partners, Bangladesh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Turkey.
