The government has proposed Tk 225.20 billion for the power and energy sector in the national budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 (FY26), marking a 25.71% decline from the Tk 303.17 billion allocated in FY2024- 25 (FY25).
Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed, while presenting the budget on Monday, pointed out that the FY26 allocation is also 0.81% lower than the revised FY25 budget of Tk 227.04 billion.
This is the second year in a row that the power and energy sector has faced a reduction in funding.
In the final FY25 budget, the outgoing Awami League government had already slashed the sector's allocation by 12.93% from FY24, when it stood at Tk 348.19 billion.
