Five people were killed when a microbus plunged into roadside ditch at Bijoynagar upazila in Brahmanbaria district. Four people were also injured in the accident and their condition is critical.
The accident occurred at Islampur area on Dhaka-Sylhet highway under the upazila at around 2:45 pm on Tuesday.
According to the eyewitnesses, the microbus was on its way to Sylhet from Dhaka. On its way the microbus lost control at Islampur area and fell into a ditch which caused death of five and four were also injured.
Confirming the matter, Officer in Charge of Khatihata highway police station Md. Hossain Sarkar said, after losing control the microbus hit a roadside tree and later it fell into a ditch. Five people died on the spot.
The deceased are- Hasan Zaman (32), son of Nuruzzaman from Dakshin Goran area under Khilgaon of Dhaka, Apu Mia (25) of the same area, his wife Mrs. Apu (22), Rijon Salehin (28) and Parash (25).
Resident Medical Officer of Madhabpur Hospital Nadiruzzaman said, four people died before they were brought to the hospital and later one died at the hospital.
