Representatives from the Embassy of Japan today visited Gaibandha District for the inauguration ceremony of a new eye care project set to significantly improve medical services for low-income and vulnerable individuals.

First Secretary Mr. KARASAWA Shinju and Second Secretary Mr. MAKIGUCHI Yasuyuki attended the event, marking the official launch of "The Project for Procurement of Eye Care Equipment for SKS Eye Hospital in Gaibandha District." This initiative, provided to the local NGO SKS Foundation, is funded by the Government of Japan through its Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP).

The project aims to offer affordable eye care services to residents of Gaibandha and surrounding districts, simultaneously bolstering the overall medical infrastructure in these areas.

"I hope this project will contribute to improving the eye care services in Gaibandha and other nearby districts, and help people minimize their sufferings from eye-related sickness," stated Mr. KARASAWA during the ceremony.

Since 1989, Japan has supported 221 NGO projects through the GGHSP, focusing on enhancing economic and social human security at the grassroots level. The total grants extended through this program have amounted to approximately USD 17.5 million.
