Dhaka is keen to finalize a tariff-related agreement with Washington D.C. that would be a "win-win solution" for both countries, according to Shafiqul Alam, the Chief Advisor's Press Secretary.

Alam made the statement in a verified Facebook post on Tuesday morning (July 8).

He confirmed that Bangladesh's Commerce Advisor, Sheikh Bashiruddin, is currently in Washington D.C. to lead bilateral trade discussions with the United States. Dr. Khalilur Rahman, the National Security Advisor, is also part of the delegation.

Alam added that Bangladesh received a letter yesterday from US President Donald Trump, stating that the US will impose a 35% tariff on Bangladeshi products starting August 1. In response, the Bangladeshi delegation has already held multiple rounds of discussions with American officials.

The Press Secretary noted that another round of discussions is scheduled for July 9, where Sheikh Bashiruddin will lead the Bangladeshi side.
