The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has stated that recent media reports claiming an attack on the motorcade of Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan in Sherpur are inaccurate.
In a press release issued by the ministry's Public Relations Officer, Dipankar Bar, the ministry clarified the events that took place.
According to the statement, Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan visited the Dawdhara Garo Hill Tourist Centre in Nalitabari, Sherpur, on Monday as part of a pre-scheduled program. After speaking with the media there, she proceeded to visit the long-term plantation area in the Madhutila range.
Later, she attended a public gathering in Madhutila, where she offered compensation to the families of individuals injured or killed in elephant attacks. She also held discussions on human-elephant conflicts and forest conservation. The ministry emphasised that all events during her visit were peaceful and conducted in a friendly atmosphere.
The release further noted that there were no untoward incidents during any part of her visit. However, it was reported that a verbal altercation occurred later between a few journalists and individuals at a separate location— an incident that was not related to the adviser's official program.
